Mark Soares plays for the Kaufbeuren ESV in Germany after a very productive career with Lakehead University and the Coquitlam Express. During his junior career with the Express, he was named team MVP during the 2004-05 season as well as being named Most Popular Player for four consecutive seasons (2001-2005). In his final year, he helped the Express win the RBC Cup National Jr.A championship title.
Soares is currently the all-time Express leader in games played (258 games), goals scored (116 goals) and total points (219 points).
Afterwards, Soares played four years with Lakehead University, where he won Ontario University Athletic West Rookie of the Year as well as being named onto the West All-Rookie Team during his 2006-07 freshmen year. He followed up his rookie season with his collegiate career best of 43 points in 23 games, being named OUA West Second All-Star team. During the 2009-10 season, he was named OUA West Most Sportsmanlike Player.
