Profile
Mark Dekanich was a star goaltender for Colgate University as he broke five of the school’s seven career goaltending records including games played, saves, save percentage, and shutouts. During the 2007-08 season as a senior, he was named Colgate’s Male Athlete of the Year.
Dekanich put together a shutout streak of 217:17 minutes, which broke Colgate and ECAC Hockey records and listed seventh in NCAA history (later broken by Cornell’s Andy Iles). Throughout his collegiate career, he was a two-time ECAC All-Star as well as winning the Ken Dryden Award as Goaltender of the Year during 2007-08.
Following his successful collegiate career, he signed with the Nashville Predators, who drafted him 146th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. His career in the professional leagues was just as successful, becoming the all-time leader in both goals against average (2.16) and save percentage (.922) for the Milwaukee Admirals.
Dekanich was signed to a one-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 2011-12 season but missed nearly the entire season due to an ankle injury. He signed with the Winnipeg Jets the following season.
